We're here to help. Just call and ask your question: 312-629-2900 or toll-free 1-800-704-2900.

Why a Lawyer? Why Now?

One of the biggest hurdles in proving a wrongful death claim - and getting answers to your question "How could this happen?" - is obtaining and preserving the evidence. In a case mentioned on our medical malpractice page, the hospital threw away the defective medical device that had caused a patient's death. The best evidence was destroyed (though we were still able to prove the case).

When you contact a lawyer, you have a skilled professional on board to advise you and help you navigate new territory. But even more comforting, you can let go of this matter and let us handle it. You need to take care of yourself and your family at this time; we make sure you can do so.

Do You Have a Case?

Some people put off talking to a lawyer because they are unsure if they really have a case. Although that's understandable, it's not necessary to know the cause of an accident or a death with certainty before you talk to an attorney.

Our legal team has handled hundreds of injury and death cases in our many years of helping injured people and families. Even at your first consultation we can give you an idea whether you have a possible case. If you decide to pursue a claim and we take your case, we have a large network of accident investigators and medical experts whose can help us get answers (and all of these consultations are free).

Wrongful Death Cases We Handle

Car accidents and truck-car collisions are the most common causes of premature death and injury, but we have also helped families who lost a loved one due to medical malpractice and delayed diagnosis of cancer, from the use of a defective product, and from injuries at a construction site.

The following are examples of financial recovery we have made on behalf of families.

·$11.4 Million Verdict for the family of a man who suffered spinal cord injury during surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He became quadriplegic and was dependent upon a ventilator to breathe for him for two years before he eventually died from his injuries. The medical personnel and hospital claimed a pin tip on the headholder device used in surgery had fractured, allowing his head to move. The hospital threw away the pin tips, and then sued the manufacturer of the equipment.

·$6.5 Million Verdict for the family of a 46-year-old construction worker who was injured at the job site and transported to the hospital. While in the emergency room he received the wrong medication; as a result, bleeding from his injuries worsened, causing his death.

·$5.3 Million Verdict for the family of a 12-year-old girl who was admitted into a local Chicago hospital with a severe injury to her windpipe. Hospital staff were careless in failing to properly manage her airway and her condition deteriorated overnight, necessitating a risky intubation at bedside rather than in a controlled operating room setting. The girl died at the hospital.
